Campsite and accommodation at the Blue Nile Falls

David Reis and Temesgen Baye write:

Our new campsite and eco lodge ( recently opened at the Blue Nile Falls near Bahir Dar.

We are perched at the top of the falls besides the Nile river.

Guests can visit us for the day and rest and relax in our shaded grass and wood gazebo in the Garden of Eden-esque location, enjoying freshly roasted coffee and ethiopian food prepared in front of you on a wood fire. The campsite is set on the land of a small khat and mango farm and guests are ablr to enjoy these fresh products taken directly from the plants.

A variety of colourful birds inhabit the area, and their songs and the sound of the nile gently flowing past soothe you and take you a million miles away from modern living.

We offer “Ethiopia’s best” tej (honey wine) and the more adventurous guests can hire papyrus kayaks to explore the gentle river before the falls.

For guests staying the night we offer sleeping in our cosy traditional huts or in our pre pitched tents, equipped with mattresses.

In the evening guests can sit besides a camp fire under a million stars and watch for leopards that cross the river at dusk.

Guests are encouraged to bathe as the locals do in the nile river and allow the tepid water to wash over them in the rocky pools as it proceeds to run the entire length of the river all the way to the Mediterranean.

A sherpa service can be organised to carry your bags from the nearby village on the other side of the river by phoning in advance.

Our current rate is 200 birr pppn for the huts and 200 birr per night for a 2 man pre pitched tent.
We have plans to build a larger hut soon which will be more.
