Recommended tour organiser for Simien Mountains

Stephen K writes:

We toured several African countries during March through June, 2013. In May, we decided to change our plans to include visiting Lalibela and the Simien Mountains, Ethiopia. We found recommendations for Addis Yimer on the Internet, and contacted him very shortly before we wished to travel. He was easy to contact and very responsive to our requests, which included some last minute changes on flight arrangements. My Yimer arranged all of our flights and ground transportation within Ethiopia as well as our accommodations in Lalibela and Gondar (the accommodations were very good). Mr. Yimer also arranged a three day trek in the Simien Mountains for us, including guides, cook, pack animals, etc. Everyone involved was excellent to work with. Another thing which we found very helpful was his willingness to change money for us, which was very convenient.

All in all, we found Mr. Yimer to be easy to work with, accommodating to our last minute changes, knowledgeable, organized and energetic. We recommend Mr. Yimer and his associates without reservation.

On our side, back from a great 2 days-1 night trek, we would recommend Addis Yimer. After having worked 8 years a guide within a travel agenycy, he founded his own company. He will tell you his own vision and ambition to contribute to the preservation of the National Park and benefit to the local communities. Addis has tons of ideas and, beyond his knowledge of the park (on this maybe you will have to ask questions, as guides are not really trained with Western standards…) it is really interesting to discuss with him.

We really appreciated his quite uncommon sense of the customer’s service, always careful to our satisfaction. What also contributed a lot to the good memory we have of our tour with Addis was the cooking of his chef, Mister Nine, who succeeded in the challenge of putting together nice meals in the middle of the mountains.

Addis’s prices are decent and the trek we have had was of good value for the money we spent, i.e. 150 dollars/person for 4-person group.
