AREQU ( arekoo) GUESTHOUSE
This opened in 2012. It is located some 100 metres outsides the ring road about 300m south of Bob Marley Square ( Roundabout ).Bradt Map p149 H4. This puts it probably less than 2km from the airport and a similar distance to Edna Mall) It is a pink coloured 5 floor building (no lift) which does not look particularly special from the outside but inside it is unique. Designed by the owner’s son who is an architect, it has individually made furniture, and items such as bedroom doors recycled from houses demolished elsewhere in Addis. The ambience is welcoming and different; and the “small” bedrooms are huge. All rooms are ensuite with superior bathroom fittings, kitchenette corner, a settee, fridge and TV. Run by Ms Almaz, who speaks excellent English, it has a family atmosphere and my visit there helped me understand its high ranking. Just look at the reviews on here. Prices are $ 65/75 for large and very large rooms and $90 for the one top floor suite which I did not see as it was occupied. Breakfast, and free wifi are included. Airport pickups are free at present. It only has 9 rooms so book early!
Reception = 00251 (0) 118 963 843 or 00251 (0) 118 963 843
