The owner/manager of this hotel is a friend of my brother-in-law and he invited us to his hotel while we were visiting. He recently inherited it from his father who built it. I was so impressed by his ambition and the strides he’s made in renovating and replacing furnishings. It is definitely a place I would stay. Especially loved the spacious grounds with mature, flowering trees and plants, which are missing in all new developments. I am sure people considering Awassa for a visit will want to know about this place. Here is the review I published on my blog:
South Spring Hotel in Awassa, Ethiopia is at the entrance of Awassa at the junction of the Addis/Awassa/Moyale highway and the road that goes through the center of Awassa. It’s 65 km. from Langano and 275 km. from Arba Minch. There are 30 rooms, including single and double bungalows all on ground level. Also, 4 family bungalows that sleep up to 4 people. All have ensuite bathrooms, TV/SAT & individual verandah. Family bungalows have a small living room. All have been renovated inside and out over the past year and new furniture being put in as I write. It has free guarded parking for 40, an indoor lobby bar that serves food, outdoor café/full service restaurant, as well as atmospheric traditional restaurant in a Sidama tukal with cultural furniture and decoration.
