Guide for Simien Mountains

Hendrik writes: “For everyone who is searching for a good guide in the Simien Mountains: we can recommend the guide named Yalew Tafete. Speaks English very well, friendly guy who takes more than enough time to tell you and show you everything you want. Also available for arranging tours in the rest of Northern Ethiopia if you want, but specialised in the Simien mountains. Check his website: www.guide-ethiopia.com.”

I second that Yalew Tafete is a great guide! He arranged a two-day hike in the Simien Mountains for me, which is a very short amount of time, but I still got to see a lot and really enjoyed it. Yalew is easy-going, speaks great English, grew up in the area, and is knowledgeable about the area. He also cares about the people who live in the mountains and was able to relay those feelings to me, by describing their daily lives and translating whenever we came across anyone and wanted to have a conversation. I hope to be back some day and do a much longer trek with Yalew, through the Simiens all the way to Lalibela.

Yalew arranged us,7 people, a wonderful trip from Bahir Dar to Lalibela via Gondar, Simien mountains and Axum. He speaks very good english and knows his stuff very well. The service was really great and he treated us in a very friendly manner. He answers all the questions weather they are related to the trip or not. His staff also friendly and nice people. Some of us will definately back soon to Ethiopia to visit other parts of the country with his company.

Agreed with the above comments! Yalew is the best. We were three girls interested in combining the Northern circuit with a short stint in the Omo Valley. Yalew arranged everything and went above and beyond to ensure that we were comfortable and happy. I’ll be back to Ethiopia soon and wouldn’t dream of visiting without Yalew’s help.
