Ankober Guest House, Addis Ababa

I stayed here for three nights in mid-April 2011. The hotel is clean, secure and comfortable. Each room has a small private bath and TV. The front desk is very helpful. Beware the night manager, though, who tries to charge ridiculous commissions. (He tried to tack 500 birr onto the price of an all-day drive I’d previously arranged and asked him to confirm).

The doors to the rooms are huge, thin and have quite a gap at the bottom and lots of noise comes in from the hall. I was woken up by late-night partiers returning home on two of three nights.

There’s no restaurant but the Wutma across the road is not bad and Tomoca Coffee is nearby for a great macchiatio.
